Critical Summary of the Article
This article aims to analyze the relationship between team effectiveness and communication among a group of employees that work at different times, locations, languages, and cultures. Team effectiveness is highly dependent on a range of communication strategies. Teamwork is necessary for a work environment as it encourages organizational and personal growth and allows diversity in the workplace leading to increased productivity. Communication is an important skill, especially for leaders of the global virtual teams and the management, as it helps the employees understand the organizational culture improving morale, engagement, and satisfaction (Morgan, Paucar-Caceres, Wright, 2014). Therefore, by analyzing the results of this article, it is possible to outline communication techniques that will aid team leaders in making their virtual groups more productive and effective in their undertakings. In the current generation, there has been an increased need to find more flexible structures due to the increased virtual working and communication, which is key to unlocking the ability and success of this undertaking.
Critical Analysis of Research Methods
A qualitative research method was used on chosen employees in a UK multinational pharmaceutical company to determine the result. Participants were chosen randomly from the five groups that constituted the organization. They were later divided into seven categories depending on the product, and the entire research was conducted in the vaccine division. To ensure diversity in the research team, participants were picked from all levels of management, including the least subdivision. To ensure that the best results were obtained, data collection involved a combination of styles which would be later analyzed to determine which provided more accurate information. First, the participants were required to fill out a set of predetermined questions that explored a wide area of the research topic.
Additionally, after filling out the questionnaires, an interview was conducted on some participants who were chosen randomly. The interviews were audio-recorded to ensure that the information obtained was critically analyzed before making the conclusions. The data obtained in this section is analyzed through a pattern matching technique whereby what is obtained is compared to what was expected.
Critical Analysis of the Results and Conclusion
The data from the questionnaires was critically analyzed to draw conclusions. Notably, major differences occurred in the pattern matching technique, which resulted in an alternative explanation that reviewed the existing disparities in terms of the extent of virtual gaps. Therefore, it is evident that, even though the performance was achieved in most cases, team feasibility was below expectation, thereby lowering the level of effectiveness. The results seem to be supporting the research since when the right communication strategies are used, organization and cultural dimensions are not affected. Therefore, to build and manage operative teams, there is a need to ensure constant communication as it is the key to leading global virtual teams.
