Why Humanities Matter
My name is Darby Fields, and I am 24 years.
I am currently pursuing a business course majoring in Business Administration. With this course, unlike most other students who wish to work in various firms and organizations, I intend to gain enough knowledge to convert my business idea into an empire. After completing my studies, I hope to partner with some of my family members to open a clothing boutique that I believe will convert into a multistate business with time. Even though many argue that humanity courses are weaker than sciences and mathematics, I think that my school is giving me an excellent base to shape and follow my career goal. With the skills am gaining together with my strengths, goals, interests, and passion, I believe I can show others how a course in humanity is essential in the daily running of every business.
According to an article by Malbreaux, A Case for Humanities, there are several pros and cons identified. One of the significant reasons humanity matters is that it gives insights into everything. According to the articles, humanities require more than just reading and writing as one has to understand those feeling, thereby allowing one to connect with most aspects of life (Malbreaux, 2018). Additionally, it brings clarity to the future, thereby helping individuals understand the world. Getting versed in humanities helps one analyze a text, thereby crafting an argument through critical thinking. And even though the skills gained are intangible, they can be used in various industries, especially those that are not STEM-centered. Therefore, it can be argued that the general understanding of humanity helps add value to individual life.
On the other hand, due to globalization and technology growth, most people advocate for more tangible skills. As a result, this has led to a change in demand in the job market, making the humanities earn less than the courses in the STEM fields (Malbreaux, 2018). Therefore, considering the pros and cons of humanities, I intend to utilize the ability to understand the future to predict the markets, thereby allowing my business to identify and utilize a future market niche. Unlike the assumption by many that humanity courses are weaker than those related to STEM, I believe that any skill gained in this field is as precious as any other and, if well utilized, may help one in achieving their career goals.
